A cleanser for when even water is too harsh for your skin

I’m going to go ahead and share with you guys one of the BIGGEST and most embarrassing things about my face, apart from my face itself. It’s not a really fun or cool thing to talk about; but I’m going to do it in the hope that it may help those of you that suffer from the same ailment. At the very least, you’ll know you’re not alone, and that Dermalogica can help you out.

For the past three years, I have suffered from a rather horrible sounding skin condition called perioral dermatitis. What this means is that every so often (unfortunately for me, once a week) my skin throws a tantrum and angry red bumps appear around my chin, jaw and eye area. The direct cause is relatively unknown; but it can come from cosmetics, heavy creams, oral contraceptives, and even toothpaste containing fluoride- whaaaat. It’s most common for women to be affected by perioral dermatitis between the ages of 20-45- with 90% of cases being reported in young women. SAD FACE.

As I said, I get a flare up once a week, and it can occur from stress, cold weather, or if I’ve trialled a beauty product that doesn’t get along with my skin. While it’s there, it’s a nightmare…someone recently asked if I had a black eye- can you imagine? It only lasts for 36 hours, and you could cover it up with makeup, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Finding the right products to use has been a bit of a nightmare, quite frankly, for fear that whatever I use will anger my skin even more. I’m not even kidding, last month I tried to wash my face with warm water alone and I swear I could feel my skin screaming at me. If you can’t use water, what CAN you use?

I’m going to answer my own question and tell you, because once again Dermalogica saved my skin…and with the new lower prices, this is perfection. I’ll have to use it once a week when my skin is mad, so the fact that this product starts from $20 is just brilliant as far as I’m concerned. THANK YOU Dermalogica UltraCalming Cleanser. This product is hands down the only skincare I can use on my face when I’m being attacked by the perioral (that word) monster. It’s designed for “reactive” skin, aka, me, and completely calms and cools any redness. It’s soothing beyond belief! It is pH-balanced, non-foaming, and doesn’t leave a film- very important. My favourite thing about it is that you don’t even need to use the dreaded water to rinse it off; you can just use tissues or a super soft cloth, very gently. If your skin can cope with warm water; rinse it off by all means, but know that you’ve also got the other option if you’re in the same boat as me.

I’m clearly sold on this, and I can’t recommend it enough for other perioral dermatitis sufferers or for those of you with sensitive skin. After I had “that” incident with the water, I thought I was doomed, but I should have known Dermalogica would have something for me! This is skin saving at its finest.

Wow! This cleanser sounds like a life saver! I too suffer from a form of dermatitis/eczema which only pops up on my face... By the looks of your review this could be a product I need to try. Would love to give this a go and see if it works for my sensitive skin as well as it does for yours! I also love the new prices making it affordable for everyone that wants to try it.

I would love to try the ultra-calming cleanser. My skin does all sorts of funny things in winter going from oily to dry. This would really help me to have nicer skin!

I have super sensitive skin and regularly get eczema and dermatitis so its amazing that Dermalogica have reduced their prices as I am a student so times are tough but being poor shouldnt mean I have bad skin!
