You can read more about why I wanted to experience appearance medicine here, and read more about my fantastic practitioner, Dr Catherine Stone from The Face Place here- I chose her because she is, quite simply, the best. But for now, I'm going to tell you what it was LIKE- because I did it! And I LOVEEEEEE it!!!
Something that I was really surprised by was how quick the procedure itself is! We're talking ten or fifteen minutes- TOPS. Before Cat treats you; she will give you an hour long consultation, and provide you with all the information you need- as well as talking through exactly what you'd like to have done. Below is a pic of my face chart. On the left are my concerns, and on the right are the potential treatments I could receive. As you can see, there's rather a lot, including dermal fillers- I'll be talking about this in an upcoming article. At my first appointment however, I opted for Botox between my brows, my crows feet, and the crease in my chin.
Something else I didn't know before my consult with Cat was that the effects definitely aren't immediate. Unlike dermal fillers, Botox can take 1-2 weeks to work, which I didn't actually mind because the suspense was awesome. I was able to walk straight out of The Face Place looking like I'd just dashed in to buy some Aspect Skincare (my holy grail range, something I rave about continuously on the blog, and will continue to rave about because it's incredible). I had no bruising, no bleeding, no crazy trauma. I was just amped!
Cat had instructed me to keep moving the muscles around the areas the Botox had been injected; so I had a blast on the bus on the way home grimacing at other humans. The only area on my face that felt a bit odd over the next day or so was my chin, it felt a little stiff, unsurprisingly. A month later (yes, this all happened a month ago- it was hard to stay quiet believe me!), it's either stopped feeling stiff or I've gotten used to it. No drama at all.
What do I think? I am seriously stoked. Because the frownies were so deep (from years of scowling??!), Cat had told me they wouldn't be completely erased, but they're absolutely, definitely less noticeable. I no longer look like I'm constantly going to fall asleep or snap somebody's head off, which is a bonus for everyone around me. And I CAN still frown- those rumours are untrue. perhaps if I'd had a whole lot more Botox than was actually good/right for me, I'd be a frozen face, but thankfully I can still express displeasure ;) Have a look at the pics below, all taken after the Botox treatment, the results speak for themselves. Something I can also report that I think is truly miraculous- I have had NO migraines since. None. This alone is enough to make me dance around with glee! As for my depression, well, that was under control thanks to medication anyway, so I'm not sure if the Botox has made a difference or not...but I can say I feel more confident and happy about my appearance. I no longer crop my forehead out of pics, or surreptitiously hide my frownies while talking to people. It's all kind of been a breath of fresh air in my life, quite frankly.
To conclude, I love it, and of course I'd recommend it to anyone that was interested. I'm a HUGE advocate of Dr Catherine Stone and The Face Place- you know you're going to be looked after, and come out not only looking like a million bucks- but armed with all the information you need. I'm rapt, and I'm so excited to go back for my next treatment...which I'll be sharing with you all again. Please feel free to ask any questions down below- if I can't answer them, I'll make sure to find out from someone who can :)
