Honestly, Toronto-based skincare brand The Ordinary has everyone in the beauty world all shooketh over its range of products containing highly active, effective ingredients. I'm talking Vitamin C, Retinol, Lactic Acid, Niacinamide, Glycolic Acid- the big guns. Also included in the range are wonder ingredients rosehip oil, Moroccan Argan oil, & Marula Oil (which is ALWAYS sold out, tear). And guess what else? They also produce MAKEUP PRIMERS. Shook.
#2: They are SO AFFORDABLE
Okay- I know what you're saying- I know that you prefer to spend your money on makeup over skincare, and great skincare costs a bomb, and you'd rather spend $70 on an eye palette than on a moisturiser. I hear you. BUT- what if I told you that the most expensive product in The Ordinary range costs $27? And that the other products (including serums!) cost between $11 and $22? Would you be shooketh? And intrigued? Me too. Now- before you start getting skeptical and saying, "Why are they so cheap? Are they rubbish?"- let me stop you. They are affordable because by formulating their products in their in-house lab, producing them in their own factories, and cutting unfair retail markups, The Ordinary can offer skin care at honorable prices. Cool, right?
#3: They contain zero nasty ingredients
This means no parabens, sulfates, mineral oil, or animal oils. Happy face :)
#4: You're not encouraged to buy the entire range
Quite the opposite actually, The Ordinary recommends using an absolute maximum of THREE serum-based products in a single routine. This doesn't mean you SHOULD use three, obviously, but it's quite nice to see a brand that's not pushing you to use every product available in its line. This means more $ in your pocket (to spend on makeup, etc).
The Ordinary do not test on animals and do not ask others to do so. For this reason, none of their brands or products are sold in mainland China since such sales require animal testing for registration purposes. Again, happy face :)
#6: They are vegan
This is very, VERY rare these days. Okay, it's becoming slightly more common, but I'm talking about easily accessible, affordable brands.
#7: Their products each address a specific skin condition
Dry skin, oil skin, congested skin, aging skin- they have it all covered. I'm not sure if this counts as a skin condition (it totally doesn't), but if you have issues with patchy, flaky makeup- they have products for that.
#8: They provide clear recommendations for a customised skincare routine
Trying to figure out which products you need, and when you're meant to use them can be an absolute mare. Not with The Ordinary! They tell you WHO should use the product, what time of day you should apply it, what product it should go over or under, and how many times a day (or week) you should use it. For example, here is my skincare routine when I use The Ordinary (and can I just add that all of these products combined cost less than the UD Naked palette):
Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5
Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA
Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5
Advanced Retinoid 2%
Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil
Twice per week:
Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution
Those are my 8 reasons- what do you think? Convinced? You guys will know by now that The Ordinary is one of the brands I am stocking in Shop MUO- and for good reason...EIGHT very good reasons. Don't forget- you guys can get free shipping by entering the code MUOMEMBER at the check out- & I also have a very fair returns policy :D
However- we better have a giveaway! Tell me below which products from the range (link here) you think you would love- & THREE of you will win the product of your choice! Good luck kittens, and thank you for reading!
