Microneedling (or home rolling, or derma rolling) is a skin treatment that can easily be done at home as part of your skincare routine. it improves the texture of the skin, increases collagen production, minimise fine lines & wrinkles, and lightens dark spots. Aka, it is AMAZING!
How do you do it?
You use a cute little tool called a home roller (pictured above). you can see that it's made up of a tonne of super-tiny needles, and when rolled over the skin it makes small (TINY) pinpricks. The theory being that the skincare you use afterwards will increase in effectiveness- more bang for your skincare buck! The rollers designed for home use contain much smaller sized needles (specifically 0.3mm or 0.5mm) than those used in a clinic during collagen induction treatment.
Does it hurt?
Not really- if you can pluck your eyebrows, you'll be able to handle it! You'll feel a slightly prickly, warm sensation- and some areas of your face may be more sensitive than others. I find my forehead to be the most sensitive- but everyone is different...and I could just be a wuss..you may feel no prickliness at all!
Initially, it's recommended to only do home rolling twice a week for about 2 minutes, and build up to three times a week for 3 minutes, then four times a week for 4 minutes- and so on. Because I'm so new to this, I'm still only doing it 2-3 times a week.
You start with cleansed dry skin, and then dividing the face into sections, roll back and forth 4-5 times until you've finished your entire face. When 'm done, I press whatever serums I'm using that day into my skin (currently Vitamin C and Vitamin B), and after a few minutes apply moisturiser. EASY.
Who is it suitable for?
Most people! The only exceptions would be people with inflamed skin, a skin infection, or active acne. The easiest way to find out if home rolling could be your jam is to pop into Caci Clinic for a FREE consultation. You're able to purchase home rollers from Caci- as well as the all-important sterilising spray. It's very important to sterilise your roller after each use- so promise me you'll do that ;)
Have you seen any results yet?
Not yet, as I've only been using it for 3 weeks, and results show that you need to be doing the rolling five times a week for 5 weeks for optimum results. If you do some research online, though, you'll find ave reviews- people swear by it! So I'm very hopeful- and I'l report back with an update in the next month or two!
Thank you so much to Caci Clinic Cambridge for giving me this new tool to try- I'm so excited to see the results! Plus- I highly, highly recommend that any of you guys visit your nearest Caci Clinic- because they know their skincare inside and out- you'l be in good hands!
