It also installed in me real, true blue brand loyalty (some may say snobbery?), because for years and years my kit consisted solely of MAC products. Times have changed, and now I use a variety of brands- BUT!!! There are some products that I'll never stop loving, products for which finding a dupe is impossible, and that's okay. I'm going to talk about these below, and I'm also going to tell you about some products that didn't exist when I was there and why I NEED them.
-Blot Powder in Medium ($52): This product really doesn't get enough play as it should. If you've ever attempted to use the Face & Body foundation (an amazing product for any kit) and struggled- it'll be because Blot Powder is missing. It sets makeup with adding any colour, and is properly great for oily skin.
-Lipglass in Lychee Luxe ($38): I can't find a dupe! And I don't want to, because it's so perfect. Peachy pink with a teeny amount of gold shimmer- it lasts for hours and suits so many skin tones. My MAC friend and colleague Kara brought this into my life, and she is the queen of corals. And crab faces, but that's another story.
- #217 Blending Brush ($48): Another product I can't and won't find a dupe for- 3 of these have lasted me for years and years, and I use them every day. I initially used them to blend shadow through the crease, but I also love to use them for concealer application. They are SO soft and take the award for best blending brush(in my opinion)
- Melon Pigment ($48): I held off purchasing this product for absolute ages, even though I'd seen my friend Hayley rock it almost daily and look amazing- it's a golden peach pink. Then came a dreadful day when Hayley opened her makeup bag in front of me to find that she hadn't put the lid on the pigment properly- ahh. Even though it was everywhere, the jar was still half full- what sorcery is this? So I went and bought it, love it- and now Hayley is living in Miami as a sports journalist covering Miami Heat. So it ALL worked out.
- Lady Danger Lipstick ($40): I never say this, because I feel stupid, but it has to be said- this lipstick is fierce. A friend of mine wore it to my baby shower (years after MAC), and it looked AMAZING! I went and bought it straight away and haven't looked back since. It's a perfectly matte bright orange red and the longevity is ridiculous. I haven't found it drying at all- and it's generally available through Back2MAC , if not sold out. Get it and love it.
-Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Medium ($56): This wasn't yet released when I was at MAC, so it's really a new-ish purchase for me, but I can't go past it. It works beautifully as a setting powder, and provides coverage which is easily buildable. You'd have to go pretty overboard to look cake face with this, and they've recently changed the packaging so it's even better- dropping and breaking it is a drama I don't feel up to facing. I'm thinking the darker shades could work nicely as a contour on fairer skin too.
There are probably at least ten other "can't find a dupe, don't want to find a dupe" MAC products I could list, but that'd be crazy town. I know they're not cheap- but the quality is sky high, it really is. I don't work there anymore, so I'm not getting paid to say that- I promise! Next time I'm going to talk about products that are new (to me) that are on my wishlist, and I'll talk more about how I got the job at MAC, and what it was like; brace yourselves, Kara, Sha, Vanessa et al ;)
