- Makeup remover
I am a firm believer in investing in a separate makeup remover as well as a cleanser. Ever since I started doing "double cleansing" (using an oil based makeup remover followed by a foaming facial cleanser), my skin has been 100% happier! If you're not keen on using an oil-based cleanser on your skin, there are a multitude of others available.
A great cleanser is crucial! I read an article the other day about a study done where a woman slept in her makeup for a month - and her skin aged by a decade - a DECADE! If you have sensitive skin, make sure to choose a cleanser that will be gentle, A.K.A fragrance free. Oily? Look for a low pH level. Dry? Avoid cleansers with a high alcohol content.
If you have oily or acne-prone skin, wear a lot of makeup, or simply enjoy the feeling of an extra deep cleanse- using a toner is a must. However, look for a toner that isn't alcohol-based, and find a water-based formulation instead. If it contains anti-ageing ingredients- GRAB IT!
- Face Mask
EVERYONE needs a face mask- but, they need the *right* face mask for their skin. Masks are treatments, and it's important to choose one according to what you'd like to fix. If you have dry skin, opt for a hydrating mask. Oily or acne-prone? Hunt out a purifying clay mask. Sensitive skin loves gentle oatmeal masks, & aging skin loves masks which plump, or contain glycolic acid
- Revitalising Treatment
Wanting your skin to glow even more, and don't have time for laser treatments? I love using a brightening/revitalising skin treatment once or twice a week to keep my skin radiant. A great ingredient to look for is lactic acid, which plumps, exfoliates & refines skin. This product is definitely one of my favourites, and one of the best things I've ever used!
If you haven't jumped on the AHA/BHA (Alpha hydroxy acids and beta hydroxy acids) exfoliating bandwagon, now is the time to start. Your skin will be all glowy & radiant, any pores will be less noticeable, and even fine lines can be lessened. SO GOOD! Don't be scared off by the word "acid"- they are gentle, but definitely follow the instructions to the letter.
- Serum containing Vitamin A & Vitamin C
If you follow my blog, you'll know how regularly I bang on about the importance of using Vitamin C on your skin. It's a ridiculously powerful antioxidant that can fix virtually everything; pigmentation, sun damage, inflammation/irritation... and again, it'll make your skin glow! I like to use one that also contains Vitamin A (retinol), because of the brilliant anti-ageing properties.
Ahh, moisturiser. There are so many available, and I really love so many. It can be hard to choose, but the easiest way to to consider your skin type. If you have dry skin (like me), an oil-based, rich, creamy moisturiser will work wonders. Those of you with oily skin need to look for a formulation which is non-comedogenic (won't clog pores). Sensitive skin types will benefit from simple, fragrance-free formulations - if it's hypo-allergenic, even better. Most importantly- find one with the highest SPF possible!
There it all is- sorted! Again please always bear in mind the importance of not just choosing quality products- but choosing the RIGHT kind of quality products for your individual skin type & needs. There's no point in choosing a product because it smells nice or looks pretty if it's not going to do what you want it to do. And always, always remember to wear sunscreen every single day- that's really the most important step in any skincare routine!
