-What is your skin care regime, and which products you use and why?
I use a number of products, when I was younger I was rather bad with my skin care and occasionally used a cleanser but never moisturised. As I have gotten older I realised I needed to look after my skin a lot better. I’m a massive fan of the Kiehl’s Dermatologist Solutions Epidermal Re-Texturizing Micro-Dermabrasion, it is the best exfoliator I have ever used and my skin feels so silky smooth after I use it, it is also a great product to use to prep your skin before you use any treatments as it helps to enhance their efficacy. My daily cleanser is Kiehl's Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleanser or Kiehl's Ultra Facial cleanser. I also use Kiehl’s Dermatologist Solution Highly Efficient Skin Tone Corrector to correct some dark spots I have, it is a great product to even skin tone. My favourite skin mask is the Dr Hauschka Rejuvenating Mask, I try and use this once a week and my skin always glows the day afterwards. I moisturise with a few different products, I like to keep my skin guessing and it seems to work well for me. I switch it up in the morning between Dr Hauschka Melissa Day Cream and Kiehl’s Açaí Damage-Correcting Moisturizer, At night I either use the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate, (it’s an oil which freaked me out at first but it has never made my skin feel clogged up and leaves it super smooth and refreshed in the morning, you use only a few drops so the bottle last for a long time); my other night time go-to is the Dr Hauschka Regenerating Serum.
-Do you take any health supplements to help with skin/hair/nails?
I take Vitamin D daily as well as fish oil at night, I don’t eat any seafood so it is important I get the Omegas into my diet somehow and I struggled for years to figure out how to do this. My best friend Julia (of juliaandlibby.com) introduced me to a mint flavoured fish oil, my main issue with fish oil was the after taste, it would make me sick. This oil is great as you don’t taste the fishiness at all and if you take it before bed you won’t be think about what you have just taken, it’s big mind of matter thing for me. I take the ethical nutrients version and take it in the oil form, its cheaper and more effective than the capsules as your body has to break down the gelatin it is incased in if you take the capsules.
-What are your favourite makeup products and why?
I have Alopecia Universallis so have full body hair loss, to give the illusion I have lashes I wear MAC Boot Black liquid eyeliner everyday, this is my one must have product and I also wear a waterproof MAC eyeliner on my bottom lid everyday also. I’m a big lipstick fan, I’m not in glosses as I hate the stickiness and getting my hair caught in it in windy days. My favourite lipsticks are Ruby Woo and Lady Danger from MAC, I’m a big bright lipstick colour girl and am very partial to reds. I also recently discovered Intense Plum and Crazy Fuchsia from L’Oreal, they are great bright pigments and I get a lot of comments on them. I have a few foundations I switch between, MAC Face and Body is great for a dewy finish with light coverage and then I wear studio fix if I’m out at night or want fuller coverage. I also like to travel with L’Oreal Infallible as it has a built in brush which works great and the coverage is light. MAC loose fix powder is brilliant at setting your makeup to help keep it on your face all day, this is something I only discovered in the last year or two but makes a huge difference! I used to never be a fan of BB creams as they always slid around on my face, but I have recently tried L’Oreal Youth Code BB and I am obsessed with it, it is my new weekend go to. In summer when at the beach or swimming I wear MAC Liquid Last eyeliner in place of Black Boot as it is 100% waterproof, this stuff seriously doesn’t move, it is brilliant!
-Do you have any makeup tips/tricks you swear by?
Contouring your face with bronzer makes such a difference, especially bronzing under your chin, it gives your face great definition. Put your concealer on top of your foundation. Your foundation works to cover blemishes and dark spots, so you should see what is left after foundation and then work with concealer to cover that. If you put it on first you risk getting a cakey look over those areas. I picked this trick up over the years when I modeled and it makes such a difference. If you are putting foundation on and not using powder then make sure your blushers are cream, they will stick to the foundation better. Basically stick to the principle that you put powder on top of powder, liquids on top of liquids, so after foundation always use a powder before using a powdered blush and same with your eyes. If you blend your foundation over your lids make sure you set it with a powder, that way the colours you put on will blend well and stay where you put them. Not a makeup trick, but if you have a red pimple you can add a bit of Clear Eyes to a Q-tip and dab it over the area, it is really good at taking the red away.
-What are your favourite hair products and why?
You may think I don’t really have the authority to talk about hair products as I don’t actually have my own hair, but I do own a multitude of wigs and they all have different natural hair types. I get them from www.freedomwigs.co.nz. So I have had to get used to how to work with straight, flat hair to super curly and thick hair. Diamond Oil from Redken is my most recent find, it is amazing. I used to use Moroccan oil only to discover it has silicon in it, so that really just coats your hair to make it look shiny but doesn’t actually treat your hair. Diamond Oil makes your hair super shiny but also treats it making it was super soft and manageable. I use different shampoos and conditioners as it is good for your hair to not get used to the same product. My favourites are O&M Hydrate and Conquer, Soft Touch by Redken and Pureology Precious Oil. All are really hydrating as since my hair isn’t attached to a scalp and doesn’t receive natural oils it needs to get as much of a hydration boost as possible. Redken Powder Refresh is a dry shampoo and a must have item for anyone with a fringe when you want it to look fresh between washes.
-What are your favourite fragrances and why?
I love Tom Ford Black Orchid during winter, the classic Issey Miyake is my always my first go to. Other favourites are Narciso Rodriguez and Michael Kors.
-What/who are your beauty inspirations/icons?
I don’t have ‘celebrity’ icons so to speak as I find I relate to and be inspired by my friends and family; in particular my friend Milly who is part of the Sydney based DJ duo The Faders, she has the most epic hair and is always so well groomed and presented. I love her style and look, and she always inspires me.
