-What is your skin care regime, and which products you use and why?
I have normal/combo skin that can fluctuate either way to a tad oily or dry depending on the season/climate/my hormone levels. In the mornings I use St Ives Apricot Scrub as this helps to keep my pores clear and makes my skin radiant! I find it gentle enough to use every second day which is also good! On the days I don’t use my scrub, I use the Simple Cream Cleanser. Then I use toner and I am currently using one by Elizabeth Arden as it doesn’t sting my skin and preps it for moisturizer. I was until very recently using one of the most basic moisturizers on the market and I LOVED IT! Nivea Soft Cream! But I have just purchased the Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentrate and I adore it! It is just so moisturizing without feeling greasy at all! It also has a pleasant fragrance that just smells very clean, simple and non-floral. I prefer this to my Nivea one now as it is a fantastic primer for makeup too! Then I use the Kiehls Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado because it is seriously moisturizing and helps to reduce dark circles. My last step is to apply sunscreen and I am currently using one by Embryolisse. Before that I used a Neutrogena one that I hated but I find it hard to find face sunscreens that I like. I often just used BB Cream instead but in the warmer months, I prefer to use an actual sunscreen to protect my delicate porcelain skin.
At Night, I use Maybelline Express Eye Remover to remove my eye and lip makeup, then my Clarins Cleansing Oil to remove my face makeup. I then use my Simple Cream Cleanser. I like to double cleanse as the oil cleanser removes all my makeup, while the cream cleanser cleans my bare skin properly. I then use my Elizabeth Arden toner to prep my skin and stabilise the PH levels. Next, I use a few drops of Evolu 100% Certified Organics Rosehip Oil (every third day) under my Embryolisse moisturizer to add an extra moisture boost! It helps to reduce any scars I get from pimples and even my skin tone. Of course I use my Kiehls eye cream at night too! If my lips are looking chapped, I scrub them with my Lush Mint Julips Lip Scrub and then apply Nivea Lip Butter in Caramel Cream which is my crack!
I know this seems like a lot of steps to undertake, and I used to think of cleaning my skin as a total chore but now I enjoy each step and the whole process as it is a great way to unwind from a long hard day of work and I like seeing the results my skincare regime brings. My skin is probably my most complemented physical quality, second to my blue eyes!
-Do you take any health supplements to help with skin/hair/nails?
I don’t take supplements but instead try to include foods in my diet that help this! I love almonds for strong nails and I eat lots of vegetables because if I don’t, I get sick really easily due to a low immune system so it is important for me to have a balanced diet! One of my favourite breakfasts is a home-made smoothie with 1 banana, handful of mixed berries and greek yoghurt. It is packed with antioxidants and the banana gives lots of energy to start my day!
But let’s be honest, I need coffee once a day or I am cranky and I can’t turn down French toast with bacon and banana drowning in maple syrup and butter! I think eat what makes you happy, and for me that is mostly good foods with a few naughty treats ;-)
-What are your favourite makeup products and why?
My favourite Foundation at the moment is MAC Studio Fix Fluid in NW10 because the colour matches perfectly and it has a lovely satin finish. BUT, I have also discovered a few runner-ups that I have been loving: Rimmel Match Perfection in Light Porcelain (for a dewy finish), Maybelline Pure BB cream in Light (for light coverage) and MAC Full Coverage Foundation in W10 (I use this for evenings/performing but also daily as a concealer).
I have a strange obsession with blushes and my blush holder is overflowing! I love MAC Well-dressed, Benefit Coralista, Estee Lauder Tease, NARS Sin and most recently theBalm Instain blushes! I love that with these I have a big range from peach to pink to plum and I like to mix them on my cheek to get different colours.
I can’t go past my Naked2 palette by Urban Decay as this is my go-to palette I take EVERYWHERE! But I have recently discovered the Lorac Pro Palette and theBalm Balm Jovi Palette and these are just as amazing! I am also loving the Maybelline Color Tattoo’s because they make great bases and are very affordable! I now have 10 colours!!! And for Pressed Pigments, I love Loreal Color Infallible Eyeshadows … again I have too many of these haha. And lastly, a few lipsticks! I LOVE my MAC lippies in Ruby Woo, Rebel, Lady Danger, Angel, Impassioned, Girl About Town, Syrup and Show Orchid! And I LOVE Lime Crime Velvetine in Red Velvet!
-Do you have any makeup tips/tricks you swear by?
Always push powder into your skin rather than sweep it because you end up looking less powdery and it avoids shifting your foundation/concealer around your face!
For pale girls, use a taupe coloured blush as a contour instead of bronzer as it looks more natural!
You can do more with good brushes and bad products than bad brushes and good products!
I use the finger-in-mouth trick every day to stop lippie on my teeth!
If you get mascara on your lids/under-eye, wait for it to dry, then use a cotton-tip to simply wipe it away! It won’t smear, but simply flake off!
Your makeup will only look as good as the skin underneath, so focus your energy, time and money on skincare! If your skin is in a good way, makeup will only enhance this
-What are your favourite hair products and why?
L’Oreal Elnett Hairspray is the best because it holds a curl so well and brushes out!
Macademia Natural Oil Hair Mask is THE BEST MASK EVER! It is so good at making hair silky smooth! Just be careful to only use it once a week because it has proteins in it which can cause your hair to get brittle if you use it too often! (the opposite of what you want!)
Argan Oil: I use a few drops of this before I blowdry to protect and nourish my tips!
-What are your favourite fragrances and why?
Current Evening Favourite: YSL Manifesto! It is the perfect mix of vanilla/berries/sexy and it LASTS ALL DAY!
Current Daytime Favourites: Vera Wang Lovestruck & The Body Shop Indian Night Jasmine
All-time Faves: Chanel no. 5 because it is classic and gorgeous and my husband bought it for me once! Chanel Mademoiselle because it is beautiful and girly but not too young! Dior Miss Dior Cherie because I wore this in high school and it has happy memories! YSL Elle because it is only of the most exotic/sexy/spicy evening scents around! I wear this when I want to feel empowered!
-What/who are your beauty inspirations/icons?
I find all my beauty inspiration online through YouTube and Blogs. Shannon from Shaaanxo is one of my biggest inspirations because she does flawless makeup tutorials and has such a lovely aura about her! I would love to meet her one day! I also love the Pixiwoo ladies and Wayne from gossmakeup artist! They inspire me everyday! In fact, I trust Wayne’s reviews more than ANYONE online! I get so many of my tips from him!!! <3
For skincare advice, I LOVE ViviannaDoesMakeup. She knows her stuff!
I also love reading Elle Fowler’s blog www.dreaminginblush.com and Lily’s blog www.whatihearttoday.com
I prefer to get my inspiration from people I can relate to rather than A-list celebrities that live a completely different lifestyle!
