What is your skincare regime and which products do you use and why?
I start off my day by drinking warm lemon water. Then I cleanse with Priori cleanser (the Priori range is all active ingredients, naturally made, not tested on animals and suitable for vegans.) Relatively costly cleanser sitting in the $80-$90 mark, but it lasts 6 months + and the results are worth it.
After cleansing I use the Ultraceuticals Ultra A perfecting eye cream. Vegan, cruelty free, all natural. (Buyer note: This product is top of the line pricing at approx $100+) Lasts almost a year though.
I then use Environ AVST (advanced vitamin skin technology) moisturiser. (Again, cruelty free, vegan brand with all active ingredients.) Note: You must start on AVST 1 and work your way up to the stronger vitamin levels. I have been using this product for years and am now finally on AVST 5.
I finish off the regime by using Environ’s RAD sunscreen (a must have for everyday wear, regardless of weather).
I use Environ’s Pre Cleansing oil in the evenings to remove my make up before using the Priori Cleanser. The oil is a beautiful gentle product and amazing at removing all traces of make up, including stubborn mascaras. Good for dry or sensitive skin.
Next I use my Priori Cleanser, followed by a Priori exfoliator for body and face. (Speaking of exfoliators, please girls be mindful about purchasing some of the supermarket branded exfoliator’s as most contain plastic beads that don’t dissolve in water and cause so much havoc in the ocean).
Tip: Use your exfoliator with a skin brush (found in Farmers for $100) the skin brush helps generate skin cell turnover and is best to use before an active moisturiser or serum as it absorbs more of the goodness!!
So lastly in the evenings after the skin brush/exfoliation process, I use my Environ AVST 5 moisturiser.
A few times through the week, I will use an Ultraceuticals Skin Brightening Serum in the evenings in addition to the AVST. (This serum comes with a high price tag, but works absolute wonders!).
For spot treatments, I use Tea Tree Oil or break off a piece of an aloe vera leaf and rub it on the effected area. Seems to calm the skin (also helps treat burns quickly too).
Do you take any health supplements to help with your skin/hair/nails?
I take Evening Primrose Oil everyday – up to 4 capsules a day. The oil helps to treat acne, nourish nails, scalp and hair and it assists with joints and weight control. I chose an oil for a supplement as I’m vegan and don’t get fish oils in my diet.
As far as iron goes, I haven’t had any issues with my iron levels since being a vege, but I do also take a shot of Floradix everyday to make up for whatever I may be lacking in my diet.
Also I religiously drink 8 glasses of water a day or more and also a warm water with lemon in the morning before consuming anything else, this is an amazing natural health supplement (kicks starts the metabolism, boosts your immune system, clears skin and does so much more for the body!)
Lastly I drink a big fruit and vege juice everyday.
What are your favourite make up products and why?
Thin Lizzy Concealor – Cruelty Free, Vegan and NZ Made. Also the best coverage I have found, I even use this concealor to cover up tattoos before I go to auditions or castings.
Thin Lizzy Mineral foundation, excellent teamed with the concealor for a more consistent, matte finish and longevity of wear.
Lucas Paw Paw for my lips before lippy and also great for any dry spots or skin irritations (a must have for travel).
Eco Bella vegan mascara (need to use most vegan mascaras with an eye curler though, as without Beeswax in the ingredients, the mascara isn’t as volumizing. Vegan Cream Blush by The All Natural Face store on Etsy.com.
Do you have any make up tips/tricks you swear by?
Regular exfoliation/skin brushing helps your makeup look fresher for longer.
Applying your make up with a regularly washed foundation brush instead of your fingers helps prevent breakouts.
Gently brushing your lips with your toothbrush before applying a lip product increases the blood flow making them look fuller, feel softer and your lippy to look good longer!
Rubbing Vaseline along the lash line each night helps stimulate lash growth.
What are your favourite hair products and why?
Organic Care Shampoo and Conditioner (mid price range brand from the supermarket). Cruelty free and vegan.
I also love to use Moroccan oil or coconut oil to treat the ends of my hair that are dry or damaged.
What are your favourite fragrances and why?
Well my favourite fragrance use to be Flowerbomb by Victor and Rolfe, but when I found out that they still test on animals, I decided to boycott the brand and haven’t yet found a suitable replacement, so I have very been basic with my scent by using only an aluminium free deodorant. I would like to start mixing my own perfume oils.
What/who are your beauty inspirations/Icons?
Because I don’t read magazines anymore, or follow Hollywood a-listers, I have started to look for inspiration in women around me and women who live natural wholesome lives and look good for it. Karyn Calabrese is one of these women. She runs many successful raw food restaurants in the US and is 65 years old, but looks about 30. She has a few videos on Youtube discussing her diet and lifestyle if you are interested in checking her out.
Describe your make up look in 3 words:
Essential, doll-like, consistent.
Last words of wisdom?
*Be mindful of what you are putting on your skin, it absorbs chemicals which can effect your health. Keep it natural, do your research on ingredients you are unsure of. Know where the product comes from, what conditions it’s made and how its tested. Ethical buying ladies!
*Using active skin care products is the way to get results.
*Warm lemon water, exercise, a good diet, plenty of water and managed stress levels will see you benefiting from glowing skin and shiny hair in no time.
*Aluminium free deodorant is a much safer option for women as aluminium has been a common denominator linking women with breast cancer.
*Fluoride free toothpaste will soon be everywhere, so start using it now and protect your health from such dangerous chemicals.
