That you can’t slack off on skincare, regardless of your age
THEN - I was exposed to not just a million new products, but an actual education of sorts about skincare. For the first time in my life I knew the difference between a serum containing Vitamin C, & a serum containing Vitamin A. I started not only cleansing, but doubling cleansing - something which completely changed my skin (you can read about it here). Now, I actually get more excited about skincare than I do about makeup, which is something I never thought I’d say.
My advice? Start looking after your skin as soon as possible - just trust me on this one! You’ll glow, it’ll make your makeup look better, & you’ll feel more confident with a bare face, I promise!
That hair removal can REALLY hurt, but it doesn’t HAVE to
You can choose from either the Schick Intuition Pure Nourishment razor (my favourite, which contains coconut milk and almond oil - which leaves my skin feeling amazing), or the Schick Intuition Sensitive Care (perfect for those of you with super-sensitive skin) which has a Skin Conditioning Solid that contains 100% natural Aloe with Vitamin E. Soft & soothed skin guaranteed!
I’m a huge fan of how the 4 blades move & pivot, because if there’s one area that I struggle with shaving it’s around my (knobbly) knees and ankles. But with Schick Intuition? NO DRAMAS! There’s really no other razor that comes even close to how good it is. No more waxing or lasers for meeeee!
That finding (& keeping) a good brow artist is MANDATORY
It wasn’t until I started blogging in 2013 & met Lisa from Loft Beauty Boutique that I realised the importance of a good arch - AND a good brow tech. She forced me (in the nicest possible way) to grow them out, & leave them to her. She was, and is amazing, and it was quite heartbreaking to have to leave her behind when I moved to Cambridge. Thankfully, I managed to find another brow angel (Shay, from Zinkys), who takes just as good care of them & is just as sweet as Lisa is! This is extremely lucky, because I simply cannot be trusted to shape/look after my own brows.
That no one wins with cake face
When I became a blogger, it was a necessity to learn about primers, setting spray, and “baking” from Wayne Goss (who I’ll be mentioning again soon). The best way to suss your base out is to work in thin layers…& I promise you’ll still get the coverage you need! Think, moisturiser, primer, foundation, concealer, setting powder, setting spray - as opposed to one thick foundation. I know the verdict is out on whether you apply concealer before or after foundation, but I find I get less of a cake face if I wait til afterwards, and let the foundation give most of the coverage. However, just do you, boo.
That YouTube beauty gurus are invaluable, & can teach you SO much
BUT - thanks to you guys, I started watching tutorials from YouTube beauty gurus, & started to quickly find my favourites. There have been an astonishing amount of techniques I’ve learnt from these vids - & there’s nothing quite like being able to see how a product performs right in front of your eyes. I’m drawn to YouTubers that are big on explaining technique - Wayne Goss, Lisa Eldridge & Chloe Morello are my current loves. But have a browse around - find a YouTuber that appeals to you (& your sense of humour), and learn more than you ever thought was possible about makeup.
That having a go-to look doesn’t make you boring, it makes you efficient
Time is a huge factor for me - I love knowing that if I need to be made up quickly, I won’t have to scramble about trying to find the right products, or try & match one to the other. Being a blogger has given me access to a wide range of products in varying shades, & I’ve figured out EXACTLY what shades work for me…& how to do it quickly. A nice base, eyeshadows in shades that will bring out your eyes, a killer mascara, and a nude lip will take you everywhere. In about thirty minutes - twenty if I must/if someone is roaring at me to hurry up.
PHEW - I feel like I could go on and on about all the things I’ve learnt over the past few years- but I know you haven’t got all day ;) I do hope that I’ve shared something that will be of value to you...and I want to hear what beauty lessons YOU have learnt since becoming an MUO member!
Thanks to the amazing team from Schick Intuition, I have an EXCELLENT prize pack full of goodies worth $50 to give away. Simply tell me in the comments below the best beauty tip/hack you’ve learnt- I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
