Forget everything you thought you knew about the original YSL Touche Eclat foundation launched in 2012- because the new & improved 2016 formulation Touche Eclat Le Teint is fricking to die for. It has all the excellence of the original- a medium coverage (which is easily built up to full), a gorgeous glowing (not dewy, GLOWING) finish, & is a complete dream to blend. However, I have tried both, & it is far longer lasting, much more hydrating, has a much more radiant finish, & now comes in 4 more shades. My skin is normal on a good day, dry on a bad day; I've tried this foundation on both days and didn't have a problem as long as I used a hydrating primer beforehand. I feel like it'd be fine for oily/combination skin types judging from what I've experienced- but pop into your nearest YSL counter & ask them to colour match you so you can try for yourself! This absolute BABE of a foundation will be available in NZ next month (the 21st of March), along with a very, very fancy new brush, named the Y-Brush. It's absolutely gorgeous, very dense, & gives a beautiful finish without wasting product...however, the brush isn't absolutely essential to purchase. The foundation works on it's own to make your skin look lovely- trust me.
L'Oreal Paris Is bringing the GOODS with their new season's offerings, & I am ridiculously happy about it- in the way that only an MUO can be. Easily one of my favourite drugstore brands (I know we're not in America, I just struggle trying to come up with an alternative to drugstore), I'm consistently impressed with how on-trend & high quality their products are. Their brand new Infallible Matte FX Lip Colours are insanely great; I'm obsessed with the nude shade pictured above on the left (001 Silencio). I took it with me recently on a work trip to Auckland, & it lasted through numerous coffees/meals/wines/cocktails (you know me). I've also been using it as a base for my other lipsticks, because the colour just clings. I need it in my bag, always- & it comes in 5 other shades which I can't wait to try. My other pick for a sell-out shade is pictured above right, the VERY Lady Danger-like (MAC) 006 Disturbia. If you like the look of either of the above shades, you better be quick!
Ohhh, Lancome, you HAVE to stop bringing out more and more beautiful mascaras- I'm already addicted enough. The newest offering is under the umbrella of the hugely popular Hypnose range...but BETTER. All Hypnose mascaras are famous for giving lashes a whole lot of volume, & the new Hypnose Volume-A-Porter certainly delivers. I generally steer clear of volumising mascaras, because I hate having to deal with clumps and/or tacky-feeling formulations, but this guy is noticeably easier to wield. I did have to comb my lashes afterwards, but honestly, I think that's just a habit of mine. The reason I say this is because I tested it by applying multiple coats- & it was totally easy to build big fat, lush lashes without feeling like your eyelids were being pulled off. I LOVED how there was no flaking, no transfer, & how well it held a curl. I LOVED the wet, black-black (you feel me?) formula, & I loved the small-ish brush- it's quite tiny on one end, making it easier to emphasise my outer lashes. The packaging is classic, sleek Lancome...& all in all, it's just bloody lovely. I didn't think much could compare with my holy grail Lancome Grandiose mascara....but this is WAY up there, & it's available from the 22nd of February in NZ. Love love love.
Remember those days when we used to wear lip gloss? Me neither- we're totally obsessed with matte lip products right now, and the trend definitely isn't going anywhere fast. When I was having a gawk at the NYFW shows online, all I could see was matte lips- mostly red, but some of our ever-favourite nude tones as well. The look is here to stay- for another 6 months or so at least. YAY to Maybelline for indulging us and being on-trend with their very affordable and brand new Colour Sensational Creamy Matte Lipsticks. I was really impressed with the ACTUAL creamy formulation, so many brands claim to be creamy, but totally aren't (I won't name names). It's not even a little bit drying, which makes it extremely wearable- & gives a solid 4-5 hours of wear before any touch ups are needed. I didn't have any issues with feathering, and didn't need to apply lip liner first- HUZZZAH! The shades available are completely gorgeous, with my top pics being Daringly Nude, Touch Of Spice, and Craving Coral. Yum yum yum- these are my favourite Maybelline lippies so far- a must-try. Check out my beautiful blogger friend Lani's swatches of some of the shades here- she is the SWATCH QUEEN!!!!
If you haven't yet discovered what an insanely amazing ingredient hyaluronic acid is, you need to get on the bandwagon, big time. Because once you do, you will never go back! I actively seek out moisturisers containing hyaluronic; this little elixir can transform your skin from drab to, er, fab. How? Well, it retains moisture, binding it to your skin so your face is always left feeling and looking hydrated. If you have dry skin or ageing skin, you'll fall head over heels. Hyaluronic acid can also fight free radicals (nasty pollutants in the air that mess up your skin), reduce fine lines (thanks to how it retains moisture, making your skin look plumper),AND reduce inflammation. Most of you know how highly I rate Aspect Dr Skincare, and they've just released their own Hyaluronic Serum- ahhhh! It is a super-charged hydration booster containing all manner of beneficial ingredients, including Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (an oil soluble form of Vitamin C, and Niacinamide (Vitamin B, which calms, soothes, & moisturises your skin). You really only need one pump to cover your entire face, and apply it after cleansing and before moisturiser- you may not even need to use moisturiser, actually- but see how your skin feels. My skin is super happy right now, and I'm MORE than happy to continue using it and see how it affects my skin on a long term basis!
Everyone knows how much of a Lush fan I am- & when I find out that they're releasing new products I get crazy excited- maybe a little more than is normal, actually. The latest offerings this month are so gorgeous that I can't cope..well..I can, but just barely. It was stupidly hard to pick my top 2 faves, and honestly, I have so many more that I just know I'll be covering them sooner rather than later. ANYWAY- first off, The Comforter Shower Cream- this is the same scent as one of Lush's best selling bubble bars, The Comforter- aka sweet cassis absolute, bergamot, vanilla & blackberry. It's described as being wrapped in a warm hug, & I couldn't have said it any better myself. Of course the bright pink colour is a bonus for me, but I love how long the scent lingers- my boyf loves it. He actually stole some last week, & I laughed because his skin had a slight sparkle to it, which would have been hard to explain at the building site the next day..HAHA. It is quite runny, so I do recommend using one of those shower pouf things for the best results- you really won't want to waste a single drop. It's seriously yum, and I am SO happy that it's a permanent addition.
Even though I'm required to try out a huge range of skincare products for my job, I can guarantee that there will always be a product from Kiehl's in my daily skincare routine. I love them so much! The product range is huge, with products for every skin type imaginable- and even better, they are always adding to their range with new goodies. I've been wanting to try the Overnight Biological Peel for ages, so when it was given to me I high fived the universe. I know that peels sound scary, but they don't actually peel your skin off- I promise. Their purpose is to gently exfoliate and resurface the skin, leaving it smooth and clear. Over time, this peel is meant to reduce imperfections such as dark spots, fine lines and hyperpigmentation. I can't vouch for a reduction in those things as I've only been using it for a short while. What I can vouch for that is that after applying it at night time, I wake up with smooth, soft, happy skin that ALMOST doesn't need make up...and this, I LOVE. Despite it not containing any AHAs or BHAs, this peel is very potent, which I also love. I apply it after cleansing, and before my serums and moisturiser- leaving it on all night and then washing it off in the morning. VOILA- SKIN OF AN ANGEL. My skin looks great, it feels great, and I am sold. Kiehl's are very generous with their samples, so definitely pop into your nearest counter & give it a whirl- you'll be so glad you did.
This gorgeous compact is from the brand new Guerlain Spring 2016 makeup collection, and oh my goodness- it's a beaut. Many of you will have seen the Meteorites (multi-coloured pearls housed in beautiful tins) which is probably the most iconic Guerlain product- this compact is virtually identical, but in pressed powder form. In case you were wondering what on earth it is, and what it's used for- the Meteorites Voyage Powder Compact can be used to either highlight your face, or all over to give your skin an angelic glow...who doesn't want an angelic glow?? There are 5 different shades to colour correct & illuminate, & the scent is divine- the signature Guerlain violet fragrance. It is SO PRETTY & I'm in love.
I present to you- the PERFECT products from Dermalogica to use this summer. I've been using them religiously, & my skin is the happiest that I've seen it in a very long time. First up, the Multivitamin Power Recovery Masque. Packed full of all the good stuff- vitamins A, C, E & F, it's probably one of the most active and effective face masks I've tried. It's brilliant for skin that is dry or dull, & when used over time can reduce the appearance of photodamaged skin & fine lines. It smells DIVINE, & I apply it in place of moisturiser just before bed- don't worry about your pillowcases, it absorbs super quickly! This product gets an A++++ from me!
I've been telling just about everyone I know about the Daily Resurfacer. Basically, you get a (pretty big) cute tub packed full of individual packets which contain chemical exfoliation pads. I know that chemical exfoliation sounds a bit scary to the uninitiated, but it is one the BEST things you can start doing for your skin. Why? When you gently swipe one of the pads over your skin, the AHAs & BHAs it contains work to smooth, tone, & brighten your skin by gently removing dead skin cells. These are powerful little guys- but magically gentle enough to be used every day. If you'd like your skin to glow, these are the things to try!
Now, I love dry shampoo. I loveeee it. But I haven't ever found one whose effects work all day- until now. And if you're in the same boat as me, rest assured that your search is over. The Oribe Dry Texturising Spray is a little (actually quite big) miracle worker! When applied, it doesn't just absorb all the heinous oil at your roots, but it give some pretty hefty volume- some real oomph, if you will. Not only that, but it holds whatever style you've chosen, and lasts...and lasts...and lasts- ALL DAY. Sometimes until the next day. Sorry Batiste, I love you, but Oribe has taken over. Brilliant stuff.
Whether we like it or not (& whether we can believe it or not, thanks to the current heat wave)- the cooler months are coming. I'm doing all I can to get my skin ready for winter by stocking up on hydrating masks, decent exfoliating products- but most of all, moisturisers! It's a good idea to up the ante with your skincare during the colder seasons by opting for something more nourishing, & the new Kiehl's Ultra Facial Deep Moisture Balm is where it's at. It is awesomely rich & hydrating, & perfect for sensitive skin as there's no added fragrance- whoop! I like to apply this at night time as it really is such a thick balm (a little goes a long way!); I love how it plumps my face, & being able to wake up with 100% moisturised skin. A must-try for winter!
The entire Lancome Spring 2016 makeup collection looks good enough to eat- SO pretty! I love everything I've tried so far (& will mention more in future posts), but the stand out for me currently is the limited edition Lancome My Parisian Pastels. Look at the cuteness! It's a shimmer cube palette (the cubes can be taken out & moved around) for eyes and cheeks in the pastel hues- which have been touted everywhere as the number one makeup trend for the coming months. You can use them on their own- or combined- they look incredible on the cheeks & cheekbones to highlight...or for a pretty wash of colour on the eyes. Take it from me- pastel shades are going to be HUGE, so get in quickly!
I've been using various products from Davines for nearly a year now, and I can't get enough of them. I decided to try the DEDE hair care range over summer because it's designed to be used every day if needed. I've never been one of those humans who have to wash their hair every day, but this summer has been ridiculously hot, & my hair has paid the price. Enter DEDE shampoo & conditioner! It smells so good, all citrusy, & even though it's super gentle, it does a brilliant job of cleaning my mop right up, as well as leaving it soft and shiny. The range also includes a Hair Mist (leave in conditioner)- much needed for untangling knotty hair after swims in the sea!
Do you have blackheads? Or have dull skin? Do you want to wake up with radiant skin EVERY SINGLE DAY? This is not an infomercial, this is a RAVE about the Environ Alpha Hydroxy Gel. Okay- this product is the business. I apply it every night, & I can't even begin to tell you what a difference it's made to my skin. Since I've used it, I only wear tinted moisturisers/light coverage foundations because my skin just looks so damn good that it's a shame to cover it up! The gel itself contains a high amount of AHA's (alpha hydroxy acids) such as glycolic & lactic- both of which do wonders at improving the texture of skin- & it's strong, so I recommend talking to your beauty therapist before trying it. It's my go-to every day now, & I recommend it to anyone who has issues with congested, mature, or sun damaged skin.
I have to admit, I've always been a leeeeeetle bit cautious of gel/liquid/cream blushes- basically anything that wasn't in powder form. I was convinced I'd use far too much, that it would stain my face, & go horribly wrong- you get the idea. But the YSL Fusion Ink Blush from the latest collection (Spring 2016) is magnificent, & most importantly, tres user friendly. The gel formulation is light, & easy to blend- I apply a little to the back of my hand, & work from there using a densely packed round topped blush brush. This means I can't over-commit, & just build the colour up. The slender tube packaging is both beautiful looking, hygienic, & functional- & the colour stays on my cheeks for a solid 6-7 hours. WINNER!!!
