As we all know- dates can be nerve wracking. The goal here is to create a beautiful, calm atmosphere at home; a little haven for all your beauty prep in an environment conducive to relaxation. Plus...it's FUN. You can't go past some gorgeous scented candles, the more the merrier in my opinion.
Now, you need music! It is TOTALLY up to you what to listen to, but whatever you choose, don't make it something that stresses you out. Personally, I like to listen to music that makes me happy and excited...but if whale music and panpipes are your vibe, go for it. Just because I couldn't imagine anything worse doesn't mean you shouldn't do you, gurrrrrrl.
Have a warm (not hot!) shower or bath
There are very few things as relaxing as stepping into a warm bath or shower- any tension or stress just seems to melt away. You can never go wrong with an amazing smelling bath bomb or creamy in-shower moisturiser, & the products from Lush are my instant go-to's.
Now, you may have noticed that I specified that you should have a WARM bath or shower, not a hot one. This is super important because we'll be waxing later. Only shower or soak for a minimal amount of time, as you don't want to make the areas you'll be waxing too soft- trust.
Apply a face mask to give you a glow
You don't need to leave facemasks on for a million years for them to do their magic (unless specified, obviously, but I've yet to find one that actually says a MILLION years). You can pop one on and then muddle around doing other things, like your mani/pedi- which I'll talk about next. If you're going on a date, you want to look like the little angel you are (heh), so opt for a mask that promises glowy skin. Typically they'll contain ingredients such as glycolic acid, salicylic acid and/or fruit enzymes. You radiant little princess.
NAILS TIME!!! I have to admit, I am an absolute shocker when it comes to keeping my nails nice. Toe nails, yes, always- but my poor fingernails are usually bare. But because we're going for the full effect, let's not be lazy- I'll do it if you do! You can sort out your nails while wearing your face mask, because you are a multi-tasking goddess. It's totally up to you if you want to colour coordinate your nails or not, I generally don't...because, well, it's just not me. My absolute favourite nail colour for my pedicure is an OPI shade called Cajun Shrimp- a glorious reddish coral. For a mani? I scale it back slightly, and lately I have been opting for white nail polish. Essie in the shade Blanc is simple, but super cute.
Having silky smooth skin on a date is fairly imperative, & I've been trialling a brand new product from Veet which is guaranteed to give fast, easy, perfect results. Now, I get VPL on my bikini area, so I won't be going there, but I do do my legs and armpits using the Veet Spawax Stripless Wax Warming Kit, and it is SO EASY. You can watch a demo vid here, but I'll tell you how I use it, because that's what I'm here for, right? The kit itself is a very cute heating pod, which you plug in, and then pop in the wax discs. It takes about 20-30 minutes for the wax to melt, & the pod glows pink- SO CUTE. No more throwing a pot of wax in the microwave & then scalding your skin for us, thank you very much. Once melted, it stays at the correct temperature, at which point you use the spatula to apply a thick layer of the wax to your skin. In about 20 or 30 seconds the wax sets hard, & then (be brave! Just do it!) pull it off against the hair growth- it's so much easier than using strips! VOILA- you silky babe!
Hair & Makeup
Onto my favourite part- hair and makeup! I'm not a believer in makeup rules, or do's and don'ts when it comes to these things- I think you should wear the makeup that makes you feel beautiful. Whether it's a natural look with a simple winged eyeliner and a neutral lip, or full blown contouring with a dark lip- just go for it! I do advise going with a tried and tested look, rather than just winging it on the day/night. It's maybe not the time to try graphic liner, or cream contouring if you've never attempted it before. The results could be...interesting ;) Another tip? Look for a pash-proof lippy, like the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Colours or MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lip Colour- just in case. Ooohhhh wheeeee! When it comes to your hair- again go with whatever makes you feel pretty. I'm a fan of either loose waves, or a pony tail with the front/top section teased to give some height.
- You may be wondering where the self-tanning aspect is in this checklist- let me explain! Ideally, you will have applied self-tanner (if you want to of course, it's certainly not mandatory!) a day beforehand- it's important not to apply any tanning products for 24 hours after waxing. Be aware that when you wax, it may remove some of your self tanner if you have applied it- just something to remember!
- It's also mega important to do a skin test 24 hours before waxing, just to make sure you have no adverse reactions- unlikely, but better to be safe than sorry!
- I mentioned earlier that it's better to have a *quick* warm (not hot) shower or bath before waxing- definitely don't do it afterwards, as your skin will be a little tender, & the pores will be open making them more prone to irritation. Try and wait as long as you possibly can between having your warm shower/bath & waxing- an hour is ideal!
