I decided to get some hair extensions (a full head) just before Christmas, and as Loxy's came so highly recommended I had zero hesitation about going there. The only questions I needed to bring up with Kate (the divine owner of Loxy's) were how long it would take (I'm kind of impatient), and if there'd be any damage to my natural hair (which was already pretty long). When I arrived, I was welcomed like an old friend which I just loved, and Kate sat down with me straight away to chat with me about the process and my queries. I've had two lots of extensions done elsewhere, and this sort of consult definitely never happened! She even brought over a dolly head (her name escapes me, sorry dolly!) that had extensions attached so i could see exactly how they worked. You can read more about the exact technique here: http://www.makeupobsessives.com/2/post/2014/02/qa-with-kate-jarrett-from-loxys-hair-boutique.html
The next VERY important step was the blending of the extensions with my real hair, which is crucial to ensure they look as natural as possible. I also had some ridiculous regrowth that needed to be sorted- I'm a natural blonde, believe it or not, so it definitely shows when I've neglected my hair. This is where the lovely Amy comes in, who is basically a wizard with hair, she is MAGICAL! A lovely dark brown was applied, and in no time at all (because Amy is just as fun to chat to as Kate) my hair was freshly dyed and blended all together perfectly. As a finishing touch, Amy also styled my hair into the kind of gorgeous waves that I can never seem to replicate at home- PERFECTION! I was also given an incredibly helpful information pack detailing exactly how to care for my new locks which was great because I may have been a bit lost otherwise. I also knew that I was comfortable enough to call or email Loxy's if i had any concerns- their customer service is exemplary!
Obviously with my hair growth, and with time, the extensions had grown out a little, so as per the norm they needed to be re-attached closer to my head. This is why maintenance appointments are so important...if you leave it for too long, you could get some crazy knots which is just no fun for anyone. From what I can tell, if you look after your extensions, they'll look after you- and last far longer. Because it's been so hot in Auckland lately I had struggled with the sheer weight of my hair, so Kate suggested taking one row out. Brilliant solution! My head feels so much lighter, and it's easier to care for and style. The row of hair that I had taken out is kept at Loxy's for when I decide to have it put back in- I'll do this in winter, or if I have a special occasion.
The maintenance appointment only took 45 minutes, which was amazing. It is recommended to go in for these appointments every 4-6 weeks, depending on how your hair is tracking. Personally I'll be going in every 4 weeks simply because my real hair is growing so quickly- this is such a first for me! It normally takes forever to grow, so I'm rapt. Plus getting to see Kate and Amy once a month makes me super happy, I love them!
So all in all, I'm beyond happy with the Loxy's experience, and I recommend them wholeheartedly to everyone. If you don't fancy full extensions there are clip ins available- or just go and get your natural hair styled by the amazing Amy. Loxy's also sell a wide range of beautiful hair and body products such as the self tan range Vita Liberata- my H.G. self tanner.
