The most important thing to me in an eye shadow is pigmentation. You can make shadows last longer with a primer, you can blend shadows together to make the exact shade you’d like...but pigmentation is pigmentation. You can’t do much about that, apart from perhaps swatch again and again. And Sleek eyeshadows have pigmentation, YAY! I was beyond happy about this, in case you couldn’t tell.
My absolute favourite shade in this palette is Court In Cannes. It’s a beautiful brown/bronze/gold, which smoothes on perfectly. I have green eyes, and it’s a great colour for day to make them stand out. I like to pair this with Propose In Prague (a reddish, medium-dark matte brown)in the crease. It could just be me, but I do find the matte shades a tiny bit harder to blend than the others...but I generally have trouble with other brand’s matte shadows too, so I’m not particularly bothered by that.
My other favourite combination, which is a little more dramatic, is to blend a little Meet In Madrid (a medium gold) on my lids, and then use a mixture of Marry In Monte Carlo (a medium berry) and Honeymoon In Hollywood (a dark plum) in the crease. Then on the outer corner of the crease I blend in Forever In Florence (a darker burgundy plum) to create a smokey purple eye, also using it to line and blend underneath my lower lash line.
Really, who doesn’t love a good lip stain? Especially in summer, when traumatic things happen like lipsticks getting melted in handbags, or sand getting on your lip gloss applicator. We’ve all been there, and while there may not have been tears (cough), it’s just a pain. So when I tried Sleek’s Pout Paint, I had a pretty happy smile on my face- because I knew I’d found what I’d be turning to for summer.
Packaged in a cute wee tube, I wasn’t sure how best to apply it at first. Because I sussed out that they definitely do stain, I wouldn’t recommend using your finger ;) You’ll need a lip brush for these, or at the very least, a cotton bud to apply and blend the product onto your lips.
Seriously, you only need a tiny, TINY amount of this to give you an awesome wash of colour that lasts, and lasts….and lasts. To say it is highly pigmented is an understatement, and one little tube will last you for AGES. I like to pop on a little Nivea Lip Butter on top to keep my lips moisturised, but that’s definitely not a necessity.
I imagine the consistency would make them great to mix together as well. I have Mauve-Over, an amazing purple/fuchsia, and I’ve decided I want to purchase Pinkini, a hot, vibrant pink. These will see me through summer easily!
True Colour Lipstick in Coral Reef
In the spirit of trying new brands and getting myself out of my makeup rut, I decided to try the Sleek True Colour Lipstick in Coral Reef (a sheer, bright coral). The range comes in formulas of both matte and sheer, but trust me, they are REALLY highly pigmented...so even if you choose a sheer formula, you’ll be getting a lot of bang for your buck. As I mentioned above, pigmentation is so important to me...it makes a product so much more versatile, and it obviously helps with longevity. It feels really nice on your lips as well, given that it contains yummy Vitamin E to keep your lips comfortable.
I like to pair Coral Reef with winged liner, and a bronzed, softly contoured face. It’s such an easy, fresh look for summer! I am really keen to try Peaches and Cream, which is another sheer light peach shade. I’ll be trying the matte formulations in the colder months, so watch this space for my thoughts on those!
Because I’ve been tanning (naughty, I know), I decided to get this kit in Medium, and it’s just about right..in a month it’ll be perfect. It is also available in Light and Dark, and I’ll be repurchasing the Light kit for the colder months.
This kit contains two powders, both exactly what you need to sculpt your lovely faces. A darker powder for creating shadow and contour, and a shimmer powder to highlight the areas of your face you’d like to emphasise.
I don’t get too hectic with my contouring, mainly because I lack the time in the mornings, but I regularly contour my cheekbones, jaw, and forehead. After applying my base of foundation and powder, I brush the dark shade right underneath my cheekbones, around the very edges of my forehead, and all around my jaw- obviously blending it down a little onto my neck. Then I use a larger brush to buff and blend it in, making sure there are no obvious lines. Finally I use a SMALL amount of the highlighter on the top of my cheekbones, and kind of in the T zone area. If you go overboard, you can easily tone it down with a little setting powder.
That’s my own personal contouring method, and it’s pretty basic, but if you’d like to see examples of how to do more complex contouring I highly recommend watching tutorials by Giovanna at http://www.youtube.com/user/MakeUpByGio. For you lovelies with paler skin, Arna shows you how to contour beautifully in many of her tutorials athttp://www.youtube.com/user/NZBrunetteBarbie.
To sum up, I LOVE this kit, and I easily use it on a daily basis. The price is perfect, and the powders blend some easily- which is exactly what you need in a contouring kit.
Blush By 3 in Lace
I wanted to try this because I am pretty much obsessed with ALL peach blush. They’re always my first choice, every time, they just seem to give my cheeks the most natural pop of colour. So the Lace trio it was for me, and I am NOT disappointed!
Are they highly pigmented? Oh yes. You only need to place your brush very lightly in the palette to get a pretty wash, and it’s easily build-able. Does the palette come in a mixture of matte and shimmer? Yes! This makes me happy, because I don’t love wearing shimmery blush during the day, I prefer to use that for the evening. So I can easily reach for the 2 matte shades in this palette knowing I’m not going to be overkill on the shimmer front. Because they are so matte, I suggest using a light hand with these, applying a little at a time and blending them carefully- you can’t go wrong this way! As much as I love these matte shades, I am actually rather smitten with the middle shade also. I can’t testify as I don’t own it myself, but I have read and heard constantly that it is a great dupe for the ever-popular NARS Orgasm blush. And, it is REALLY pretty, so soft and easy to blend! I also like how you can mix these three colours together to custom blend a shade that is perfect for you. Do they last on the skin? DEFINITELY! I quickly apply my makeup in the mornings when I can snatch some time, and this blush is still going strong by dinner time, which is amazing.
The palette itself is lovely and solid, and comes with a huge mirror which is especially helpful. Given the high pigmentation of this blush, this palette is pretty much going to last you forever, it’s so good.
So it’s pretty safe to say that I am REALLY happy with Sleek. I love the sleek (ha) packaging, I love the price, and I love the high quality of the products. Now I’m just really concerned for my bank balance…
